For over ten years we have been asked about how we might improve a vineyard managers ‘lot’ or how a perceived problem might be over come.
We have addressed each of the issues raised and now have a range of accessories designed to ‘make life easier’, ‘remove the hassle’, ‘protect the netting’, ‘speed up the installation’, ‘avoid damage’ and ‘keep the sun off your head’.
We have manufactured, and offer for hire, sale or loan, our MAC Post Driver.
This is a hand held unit with an open ‘front’ that allows the operator to pull the driver onto the post, rather than lift it to the top of the post and ram from an uncomfortable or awkward position.
General purpose hand held post drivers, as well as pneumatic and hydraulic post drivers are suitable for installing any of our posts.
As the top of the VEE-POST has a slot just 50mm from the top of the post, it can contribute to a ‘mushrooming’ or ‘squashing’ affect at the top when the post is being installed in difficult ground. This can be unsightly and diminishes the effectiveness of the top slot.
To avoid this, we have a sleeve to place over the top of the VEE-POST that will protect the top of the post when ‘posting’.
Most hand post drivers have a ‘shock absorption’ element within the top of the driver that avoids any ‘mushrooming’ regardless of the ground.
To assist in the housing of either or both the Dann Flipper or Dann Rotator sprinkler frost protection units to our posts, we have developed a MAC-ATTACH.
The MAC-ATTACH has been developed to consummate the ‘marriage’ of Dann Flipper and Dann Rotator Frost Sprinklers to the Tristar VEE-POST and/or RAMSHEAD high strength long life galvanised steel vineyard intermediates.
The MAC-ATTACH can be fitted with ease and will retain its integration with the post in an obstinate manner, against weather and/or machinery. It will however let go when gently persuaded to by a human hand.
To ensure ‘over top’ netting does not snag on steel posts, we have developed a protection cap called a MAC-CAP.
It is UV treated, black in colour, easily and quickly housed, removed or replaced.
These MAC-CAPS fit all steel posts.
R.C. Macdonald Ltd have produced a UV treated vineyard accessory that eliminates ‘cloth rub’ when grape growers choose to protect their premium grapes with side netting.
We call it a MAC-RIG, designed by viticulturists for viticulturists.
The MAC-RIG can be attached to any timber intermediate or to a Tristar galvanised steel VEE-POST.
A MAC-RIG will extend the distance (there is 6 options) of the wire(s) from the post and thus the (side) cloth from the grapes. This means birds will no longer have easy access to your grapes. Cloth rub will no longer be an issue and sunlight and air circulation will be at an optimum for the benefit of the grapes and the grower.
Available in cut to length (15kg) boxes 230mm or 300mm long. Suitable for securing irrigation wire to your post.
Designed to stop any sinking of posts that might occur - in particular, in soft or loose soils. At the time of writing, nearly 1,000,000 posts have been sold into New Zealand Vineyards. We have only sold 48 Anti Sink Plates.
We have sold some of our posts into other horticultural applications e.g. orchards. Obviously the growth pattern of apple trees is quite different to a grape vine. We found robust tree growth was slowly pushing our post over. The orchardist came to us with his particular problem and our product development team designed an anti-lean plate that corrects and stabilises the lean quickly and cheaply.
