About Us

R.C. Macdonald Ltd is a New Zealand based, privately owned, Import, Export Company, specialising in various steel types and ‘finished’ steel products.

Our Company was founded by Mr Ron Macdonald in 1950. Together with Sir James Fletcher, Ron co-founded Pacific Steel, a leading New Zealand Steel Manufacturer.

R.C. Macdonald Ltd was the first non manufacturing Company in New Zealand to receive an export award ‘for outstanding contribution to New Zealand trade’ .

We are the sole New Zealand distributor for the Australian based company, Tristar Fencing Australia Pty Ltd. We have enlisted the assistance of Fruitfed Supplies to co-distribute Tristar Vineyard Intermediates and Accessories. Williams & Kettle (North Island) and CRT (South Island) are associated distributors for our range of fencing solutions. R C Macdonald Ltd is also the sole Australasian Mill Agent for Tata Steel of India.

Our customs and forwarding agent is Christchurch based G.V. International Freight Ltd, and our preferred carriers are Hookers in the North Island, and Tom Ryan Cartage in the South Island.

Insurance is carried through Marsh Ltd in Christchurch and our bankers are the ANZ on Lambton Quay in Wellington.

Head Office:

R.C. Macdonald Ltd head office is located in central Wellington, on the 7th Floor of the Guardian Trust Building, 15 Willeston Street, phone (+64 4) 472 4924. Our CEO is Mr John Macdonald, son of our founder.

Sales Team:

Our Sales Office serves the North and South Islands and is located in Christchurch at the office of the long established share brokers Hamilton Hindin Greene. The Manager is Mr Barry Bunting.

Barry has had nearly 40 years in the Steel Industry in New Zealand, having worked for British Steel Corporation, New Zealand Steel, Steel and Tube and most recently for R.C. Macdonald Ltd, whom he joined in 1997. Barry concentrates on servicing our South Island clients, and some key accounts in the North Island.

Barry's son Glenn Bunting joined the R.C. Macdonald Sales Team in 2003 after several years working in the Steel Industry. Glenn services the majority of our North Island clients, and some areas of the South.

Glenn and Barry are supported by Trade Assistant, Nicky Coffey. Nicky ensures the smooth running of shipments in and out, stock control, invoicing, debtors and ably assists at promotions, conferences and field days.

R.C. Macdonald Ltd warehouse facilities are located throughout New Zealand in Auckland, Hamilton, Tauranga, Napier, Wellington, Nelson, Blenheim, Greymouth, Christchurch, Timaru, Dunedin, Cromwell, Balclutha and Invercargill.
